Digitization: Schilowsky Is Planning With OPHEO

Austrian Building Materials Distributor and Hardware Store Digitizes Its Logistics Processes – OPHEO To Improve Customer Service, Tour Planning and Capacity Utilization — GoLive Scheduled For January 2020

Austrian building materials retailer Schilowsky Baumarkt und Baustoffhandel KG, headquartered in Neunkirchen and with three additional locations in Vienna and Graz, will switch the tour planning for around 60 trucks to the integrated digital transport control center and telematics system OPHEO from initions AG. As of 16 January 2020, the new system shall be ready for use. “We want to work paperless and we want to provide our dispatchers with optimal tools“, Christian Schilowsky states, who is already the third generation to head the family business.

OPHEO was the favorite, amongst others, because of the good references the software has in the Austrian and German building materials trade industry and the possibility of cross-location scheduling. Another advantage the company mentions is OPHEO Mobile’s telematics function, which consistently integrates drivers into the digitization process. Within this framework, each truck dispatched by Schilowsky is equipped with a TomTom Telematics PRO 8375 Truck driver terminal and the OPHEO Mobile app installed on it. Schilowsky is investing in a total of 58 driver terminals, eight of which are intended for its own fleet and 50 for the trucks of the hauliers.

Destination addresses are to be transferred electronically from the OPHEO dispatching cockpit to the app from January 2020, and from there to TomTom Navigation at the touch of a button. In the opposite direction, OPHEO MOBILE transmits status information and location data. By leveraging these, Schilowsky intends to optimize tour planning and loading times of the trucks at the subsidiaries. For this purpose, the company will install ETA monitors at every subsidiary that forecast the estimated arrival times of trucks.

Other project goals include significantly improved vehicle utilization. In the course of the project, which was launched in August, the article master data in the ERP system will therefore be supplemented with dimensions and weights enabling optimized materials planning on this basis.

OPHEO’s notification function will make an important contribution to improving customer service. It allows sending e-mail or SMS notifications about the estimated time of arrival to the goods consignees. A notification is sent automatically as soon as the truck passes below a certain distance to the destination.
