Construction Center Bauzentrum Rüppel Relies on OPHEO and TomTom Telematics’ WEBFLEET
The long-standing construction center Bauzentrum Rüppel GmbH is going to be dispatching its 25 own trucks with the integrated digital transport control center and telematics system OPHEO. More than 1,000 tonnes of building materials are to be dispatched with the software developed by initions AG. In the beginning of 2018, the software rollout is scheduled to be completed at nine workstations. The investment is expected to pay for itself within a maximum of two years, primarily through optimized tours and streamlined processes.
“I used to work with other transport management systems and have never encountered any software with a similarly range of functionalities,” Logistics Manager Philip Cordsmeier explains. Moreover, OPHEO was able to impress with its ease of use and integrated telematics solution OPHEO MOBILE. “With OPHEO, we have an end-to-end solution that allows us to digitize all logistics processes between transport planning and delivery,” says Fin Arldt, who is responsible for Controlling & Processes at Rüppel.
OPHEO MOBILE will be integrated in TomTom Telematics’ telematics platform WEBFLEET. WEBFLEET links OPHEO’s mobile order management to TomTom’s hardware which enables reading and analyzing the FMS and tachograph data. Based on the TomTom Link vehicle tracking devices installed in the vehicles, the speedometer data shall be transmitted to OPHEO in real time via the TomTom Telematics WEBFLEET portal.
OPHEO also continously extrapolates the expected delivery times to the entire daily planning using the real-time data supplied by Webfleet. Through this integrated forecasting function, dispatchers have enough time to reschedule or inform customers of impending delays.
TomTom PRO8275 driver terminals with 7-inch screens act as an interface to drivers, serving as a navigation system and mobile order and communication center. For the integration of OPHEO MOBILE and WEBFLEET, initions joins forces with Xplus1 GmbH from Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Germany.
In a further step, OPHEO will be connected to an automated communication solution which will transfer the digital delivery data and receipts from the Driver terminals to OPHEO and automatically convert them into PDF delivery notes and archive them. The company also plans to connect the forklift drivers, as OPHEO allows for controlling them even more efficiently.
Rüppel expects OPHEO implementation to streamline logistics processes, increase process transparency, and optimize tour planning, which can save some mileage. Moreover, plans to benefit from the possibility OPHEO offers to utilize transport resources across locations in dispatching.
Bauzentrum Rüppel GmbH is a medium-sized family business with a history stretching back to the 19th century. Originally a coal trading company, the company has developed into one of the most modern and largest construction centers in the Rhine-Main region, which is managed by Christian Rüppel in the sixth generation.
The company carries all product groups for the home, from topsoil to concrete, stones, tiles, pavers and plasters. In 15 specialist departments, 27 highly qualified consultants are available to answer questions. A 30,000 square meter warehouse and the company’s own fleet of 25 trucks ensure high delivery reliability. Around 1,250 tons of building materials are transported every day, supplying projects of all sizes – from the foundations of a dog kennel to major construction sites in Frankfurt am Main.
